Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy
Quality Vascular Care Shaped by a History of Innovation
Our vascular surgery program has had an international role in advancing the treatment of arterial and venous disease. In the early 1990s, the focus of vascular surgery began shifting from traditional, open procedures to minimally invasive endovascular techniques, pharmaceuticals and gene therapy. This transition was validated by a wide range of clinical trials, some of which were led by Emory physicians. As team members of one of the leading investigative centers in the nation, our vascular surgery specialists have often been directly involved in developing or refining the procedures they perform.
We are a premier provider of inpatient and outpatient care to treat a wide range of conditions, including:
• Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) - also known as peripheral vascular disease
• Carotid artery disease
• Aortic and thoracic diseases
• Atherosclerosis in aortic and it's branches
• Mesenteric ischemia
• Iliac disease
• Blockages to arms
• Acute venous thrombosis and chronic venous insufficiency
• Venous disease including laser therapy for varicose veins
Our treatment specialties include:
• Minimally invasive aneurysm repair to treat complex aortic aneurysms
• Carotid artery stents and carotid endarterectomy
• Peripheral arterial disease (PAD), including drug therapy, balloon angioplasty, surgical revascularization, and arterial stenting
• Thrombolytic therapy and other treatments options for deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Endolaser™ ablation and microphlebectomy for varicose veins
• Sclerotherapy for spider veins
• Pressure sensor implantation for monitoring aortic aneurysms following repair
Diagnostic services are performed at the Emory Non-invasive Vascular Laboratory. The laboratory is conveniently located adjacent to the Vascular Surgery office space in 1365A Clifton Road. We are nationally certified to perform carotid duplex ultrasound imaging; arteriovenous (AV) fistula, bypass graft, and upper- and lower-venous studies; and arterial pressure studies.
