Greater trochanteric pain syndrome results in pain over the outside of the hip and usually does not result in pain in the groin area. It is thought to be the result of inflammation or tendonitis in the soft tissues on the outside of the hip joint. It will usually respond to medications, physical therapy, and occasionally an injection.
