- The birth of Emory Crawford Long Hospital occurred on October 21, 1908 with the founding of the 26-bed Davis-Fischer Sanatorium.
- In 1911, Dr. E.C. Davis and Dr. Luther Fischer, the founders, moved the hospital to its present site.
- In 1918, Dr. E.C. Davis organized Atlanta doctors and nurses to form Emory Unit Base Hospital #43 to aid allied troops in World War 1.

- In 1908, Prohibition returned to Atlanta after a statewide referendum, but in March that year, Atlanta slaoons won the right to sell "near beer."
- In 1914, the Educational Commission of the Methodist Church met in Atlanta to announce its decision to establish a university. Emory College was designated the liberal arts division of the new university.
- On May 21, 1917, a devastating fire started in east Atlanta. There was one death and 300 acres and 1,938 houses were burned.
