Emory Women's Heart Program
Emory Women’s Heart Program provides cardiac risk assessment, diagnosis and heart disease care through a women-focused approach to cardiovascular care. Our goal is to help women prevent heart disease and improve cardiovascular outcomes through the highest quality patient and family-centered care, research and education.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. It is also a leading cause of disability among women. Prevention is important: two-thirds of women who have a heart attack fail to make a full recovery. Although, the traditional risk factors for cardiovascular disease are similar in women and men, there are differences in how strongly they affect women. Women have some unique risk factors such as premature menopause, psychosocial stressors and pregnancy-related conditions. Women may also have some unique cardiac conditions such as coronary vasospasm that put them at risk for heart disease.
The staff at Emory Women’s Heart Program is knowledgeable about these differences and utilizes a comprehensive process to assess cardiovascular risk factors and diagnose and treat heart disease. Our multi-disciplinary team includes female and male cardiologists, female nurse practitioners, nurses, nutritionist, exercise physiologists and a full-range of specialists. We provide counseling on weight loss, exercise programs, diet, and other lifestyle changes to help treat and reduce your risk of heart disease. We can help women understand how stress, obesity, depression, and menopause may impact their heart.
