Listed below is a brief biographical summary for each of our key staff members:

Anne M. McKenzie-Brown, MD
Director, Division of Pain Medicine
Program Director, Pain Fellowship
Assistant Professor
Emory Department of Anesthesiology
Dr. McKenzie-Brown is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. She is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, the International Spine Injection Society, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the North American Pain Society. Dr. McKenzie-Brown graduated from John Hopkins Medical School, where she also completed her fellowship training in pain medicine. She went on to conduct her internship at St. Luke's Roosevelt Medical Center and her residency at Emory University Hospital. 

 

Patricia Baumann, MD
Clinical Director of Acute Pain Service, Emory Center for Pain Management
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology

Dr. Baumann is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. She is a distinguished member of many professional organizations, including The American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Pain Society.  Dr. Baumann graduated from Emory University Medical School, where she also conducted her internship and residency.  In 2001, she was voted Atlanta's Top Doctor for Pain Management by Atlanta Magazine.

Michael Byas-Smith, MD
Director of Research, Emory Center for Pain Management
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology

Dr. Byas-Smith is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. He graduated from the University of Illinois School of Medicine, conducted his internship at Cook County Hospital and his residency at Emory University Hospital. Dr. Byas-Smith was awarded a fellowship from The National Institute of Health. He is also a pain research specialist who supervises clinical trials and studies that provide new treatment options and the latest innovations.

Linda Wang, MD
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology
Dr. Wang is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. She is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Wang graduated from medical school at Capital University of Medical Sciences. She conducted her internship at George Washington University Medical Center. She went on to complete her residencies at both the Mayo Medical School and Emory University Hospital, where she also received a fellowship.

 

Colette Curtis, MD
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology
Dr. Curtis is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. She graduated from the State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn. She went on to complete an internship at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City before returning to the SUNY Health Science Center to conduct her residency. Dr. Curtis completed her fellowship at the Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester. Her clinical interests include the management of head, neck, back, and spinal pain.

 

Mike de Rosayro, MD 
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology

Dr. de Rosayro is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. He is a member of the American Pain Society and the International Association for the Study of Pain. Dr. de Rosayro received his professional degree at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, England, and completed his residency at the University of Bristol. He then conducted his fellowship at the University of Nottingham. Dr. de Rosayro's clinical interests includes neuropathic pain and overall pain management.

Psychology and Pain Management:

Stanley L. Chapman, PhD
Associate Professor of Anesthesiology
Dr. Chapman is board certified in psychology. He graduated from Emory University, receiving both an MA and PhD in psychology. Dr. Chapman conducted his internship at Palo Alto Veteran's Medical Center. He is past president of the Southern Pain Society and also received the President's Annual Award for Distinguished Service from the organization in 1999 and 2000. Dr. Chapman treats the emotional and mental needs of patients who suffer from chronic pain. He provides evaluation, instruction and therapy services that enable patients to get the most benefit from medical services. His special clinical interests include obesity and gastric by-pass for obese patients.
