Dennis W. Choi, MD, PhD, a neuroscientist renowned for his groundbreaking research on brain and spinal cord injuries, reads mystery novels in a single sitting because he can’t wait to find out what happens next. Dr. Choi, who currently directs the Comprehensive Neurosciences Center, will now be able to influence what happens next at Emory in his new position as vice president for academic health affairs.

Biking for ALS

Emory neurologist and director of the ALS Center, Dr. Jonathan Glass takes to the road in the annual Muscle Mountain Mania bike ride, which raises money for ALS research at Emory. A clinician and scientist, Dr. Glass established the first multidisciplinary clinic in Georgia for patients and families with ALS.

Ties Vitamin D to neurologic disorders

Neurologist Mahlon DeLong, MD and his colleagues are focusing on vitamin D’s role in neurologic disorders. An Emory study found that more than 60 percent of patients with Parkinson’s have vitamin D insufficiency.

Jacques Dion, MD

Pioneer in Endovascular Coiling

Dr. Jacques Dion, head of the Division of Interventional Neuroradiology and professor in the Departments of Radiology and Neurosurgery, was part of the UCLA team that pioneered endovascular coiling for cerebral aneurysms in 1990. He also successfully adapted to U.S standards a procedure initially performed in France (vertebroplasty). Dr. Dion speaks French and is an avid skier. He enjoys cycling, walking and most outdoor activities.
